Woven Fabric mp3 Player Case no. 1

This pattern was made for the 4th generation of the king of mp3 players, but a few simple modifications should allow it to fit other models. This case was made for a player which is 5/8" wide. If your player is thinner or thicker, adjust the fabric on the sides or adjust the side seam allowance when you sew it up in step 15.

I also have similar mp3 player case pattern, for fabrics that won't ravel, such as felt, fleece, and ultrasuede.

For this project, you need scraps of fabric, lining fabric, clear vinyl, mosquito mesh or other fine netting, and a button.

Getting Started
Step 1: Transfer the markings to the lining piece.

Step 2: Lay the lining on the outside fabric, right sides together. Start with the circle for the touchpad. Stitch along the transferred line, and cut out the center and trim the seam allowance.
Step 3: Turn right side out and press.
Step 4: The back view. Now, you need to rip out the stitching. The stitching merely serves to facilitate pressing the seam allowances back.
Step 5: Turn the case inside out again. Repeat the same process with the screen window. Stitch along the line, cut out the center and clip the corners.
Step 6: Turn right side out, press, and then rip out the stitching.
Now you have a fabric and lining piece with those seam allowances pressed under.
Step 7: Lay the lining and fabric down, wrong sides together (i.e. right sides out). Pin a small piece of mesh into the circle window.
Step 8: Stitch in place by using a straight stitch around the window.

Step 9: Repeat the same steps using a piece of vinyl for the square screen window.
Step 10: Press the seam allowances under for the bottom edge and the strap.
Repeat on the other side.
Step 11: Line up the two edges....
And stitch them together by topstitching close to the edge.
Step 12: Press a small amount of fabric into a short strap, one 3/4" wide and one 1/4" wide. Use stitch witchery or another iron-on fusible to keep the raw ends tucked under, or use topstitching.
Step 13: Press the top edges under and topstitch across the top, taking care to tuck in the straps at the appropriate spot.
Step 14: Zigzag stitch across the side edges to finish the seams.
Step 15: Sew up the back seam using a 1/4" seam allowance.
Step 16: Hand-sew the other ends of the straps to the back of the case. The distance should be 5/8".
Step 17: Add a buttonhole to the strap....
Step 18: And add a button to the back, and you're finished!
