Fabrics and Notions
This section is divided into:Fashion Fabrics, General Notions, and Outdoors Fabrics and Notions.
Fashion and General Use Fabrics
to the top
- *NEW* NearSea Naturals - Great selection of organic cottons, hemps, colorgrown fabrics, and blends. They have that thermal waffle knit that can be hard to find. Also offers an excellect swatch service and pricing discounts for ordering several yards at a time.
- *NEW* Emma One Sock - Excellent hard-to-find top fashion fabrics, especially lyrca knits and sweater knits. She has a great swatch service!
- Fashion Fabrics Club - Their prices are good, the shipping is prompt and the fabric is top quality.
- Denver Fabrics - A wide variety of fabrics and notions at good prices.
- G Street Fabrics - This one is for people in the Washington, D.C. area. They have a great selection of basic fabrics, and a great selection of unique fabrics! However, the prices may stretch your budget.
- PA Fabric Outlet- This is my favorite fabric store! Unfortunately, they don't do buisness online, so unless you live in the Baltimore area, you're out of luck on this one. Rumor has it there is a Philly store, but I don't know the details. Lots of their stock rotates often, but some of it seems to have been there since the 70s. You can't go with something in mind, but there is always a find once you're there. Great prices.
6563 Baltimore National Pike, Catonsville, MD 410-747-4940
- International Fabric Collection - Great fabric selection, lots of Guatemalan ikats, nearly all the Liberty of London prints, plus lots more.
- The Cotton Shop - Great selection of cotton prints.
- ReproDepot - Retro style fabrics, with reproduction vintage cotton prints from the 20s to now, in addition to some "vintage-inspired" designs. A great collection of more grown-up prints.
- Fabric.com - Fabric.com has a lot of fabric, and the stock rotates often. Their prices are good, the shipping is fast, and the customer service is decent. The quality is sometimes hit or miss though. Stick with brand-name fabrics and then you'll know what you'll get.
General Notions
to the top
- Sew Biz Fabrics - Also sells on eBay. Good prices, fast shipping, and carries some hard-to-find items.
- Heirloom Woven Labels - Good prices and fast turn around, and the staff is helpful.
- Clothing Labels 4U - Another source for custom made woven garment labels.
- Create for Less - This store has lots of brand-name notions are good prices. The catch: you have to buy things in a certain "purchase multiples", although usually this is small, like three. Taking that into consideration, the prices are much better than you'd find in your local Jo-ann's.
-
The Rams Horn Studio - Wonderful buttons with Celtic- and knitting-themed buttons. The buttons can be found on the "Celtic Jewelry" page.
- Sarah1980 - Tons and tons of purse supplies, plus free shipping.
Outdoors Fabrics and Notions
to the top
- REI - REI stocks lots of buckles, webbing, shock cord, and plastic hardware at both their stores and online. If you can't find what you want in the store, you can order online and have it delivered to the store for free. Or, if you don't live by a store, have it delivered to your house. Within the REI website, find buckles and hardware here, find webbing and shock cord here, and find mosquito netting here.
- Green Pepper Patterns also sells fabrics, hardware and notions from their free print catalogue.
- Textile Outfitters - Located in Calgary. Download their catalogue in PDF format; they have an enormous selection. The downside is shipping from Canada to the US can be expensive.
- Other sources for outdoor fabrics and hardware: Rockywoods Fabrics, Wy'East Fabrics, Seattle Fabrics, Thru Hiker, Quest Outfitters, Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics, Outdoor Threads, and Beacon Fabrics and Notions.
